Groote Post
Nestled in the Darling Hills along South Africa’s West Coast, Groote Post’s history stretches back to the early 19th century, yet their winemaking exploits are relatively recent. Owned and operated by three generations of the Pentz family, Peter Sr. purchased the estate in 1972 to extend the family’s dairy farming business. Although there were some vines and winemaking taking place on the property during that time, it wasn’t until 2001 that the difficult decision to sell off their prized Holstein herd and pivot to winemaking fulltime was made. Since then, numerous prizes have been won, with a focus on harnessing the natural elegance and freshness of the grapes that come from altitude and cooling winds, well rewarded.
