Bassermann-Jordan
The history of Bassermann-Jordan entwines one family with the creation of quality winemaking in Germany. Stretching back over 300 years to 1718, back to what is now the Palatinate (Pfalz), then under French occupation, Pierre Jordan left his home in the French Savoy region to purchase vines in what is now Germany. Two generations later, following acquisitions of more vineyards, Pierre’s grandson, Andreas Jordan, began planting vineyards with single varieties, harvesting and vinifying them separately, then bottling under his own name; an approach at odds with the practice of bulk wine production common in Palatinate at the time. This moved was instrumental in the success of what would become Bassermann-Jordan, as well as key in establishing the quality and prestige of wine from this region on the international stage. Now in the eight generation of family ownership, following many changes throughout the intervening years, the estate remains unwavering in its commitment to quality. Based in Deidesheim, with vineyard holdings across the region, they practice organic viticulture in the vineyards and take a sensitive approach to winemaking in the cellar.
