Champagne Fumey-Tassin
Celles-sur-Ource in the Aube department of Champagne has been home to the Tassin family of winemakers for well over a century. This lesser-known department has often been overlooked in favour of their famous neighbours in Marne—a tension that culminated in the Champagne Riots of 1910 and 1911 when a proposed redrawing of the Champagne appellation boundaries excluded a significant portion of vineyards in Aube. In 1950, following in the steps of his father, Raymond setup Champagne Raymond Tassin, which became Champagne Fumey-Tassin in 1983. A second brand, Champagne Marie Tassin, was created in 2006. Nine vineyards are owned by the family, each with different aspects and exposures, planted to Pinot Noir and the rare Pinot Blanc Vrai, which accounts for only 0.002% of the total vineyard area of Champagne. The wines are terroir-focussed, showing the capabilities of Pinot Blanc Vrai to produce delicious and complex Champagnes.
