Chateau de Montifaud

Now into the sixth generation of the Vallet family, Chateau de Montifaud began in 1837 with the purchase of 3 hectares of vineyard in what is now the Grande Champagne appellation of Cognac. Augustin Vallet increased his holdings up to approximately one dozen hectares over the decade that followed, setting up a three pot still to distil the wines he produced—an unusual step at the time when so few landowners distilled their own wines, preferring instead to send them to local distilleries. This quirk continues to mark out Chateau de Montifaud from many other producers, with the entire production process–from the vineyards, fermentation and distillation—undertaken in-house. Today, the vineyard holdings amount to more than 150 hectares spread across Grande and Petit Champagne. The house produces a range of Cognacs that balance the beautiful fruitiness of the grape spirit with considered oak maturation, often bottling much older liquid than the designations such as V.S. or V.S.O.P require, thereby offering exceptional, well-matured spirits at excellent prices.
