Marine Layer

Named for the thick blanket of fog that pours in from the Pacific along the Sonoma Coast, Marine Layer adopt an artisanal approach to winemaking in one of California’s most difficult but potentially rewarding wine growing regions. Cooler temperatures, fierce winds and persistent fog create a challenging but prolonged growing season, allowing grapes to reach full phenolic and sugar ripeness in unison. The resulting wines are masterpieces of balance, nuance and elegance, showing the quality latent in the patchwork of Sonoma’s single vineyards on which each of their wines is based. Wild yeast fermentation, partial whole-cluster inclusion and delicate use of oak allow the terroir to shine through, giving exceptionally sleek, complex and engaging wines.
